President's Message | September 2022

9/1/2022

  • We have engaged a member Task Force to review all areas of the club to report back to the Board of Directors. Several members have volunteered to help us, and we are finding things they can help with. This Task Force is working independently of the Board to develop an integrated path forward for the club which would need Board review and approval. This allows the Board members to continue to focus on day-to-day operations.
  • You will have seen and heard about the Club management changes as we work to right-size the club administration and promote from within the high performers. Much of the impact on expense savings will materialize in upcoming months.
  • We have struggled with our operating targets in F&B. Holly Stovin has been promoted to F&B Manager and Will Mitchell to Operations Manager. As Holly and Will embark on their new positions, we look forward to their efficiencies and leadership.
  • We are constantly adjusting F&B staffing levels to better match member demand.
  • A comprehensive Membership category review is underway with the goal of streamlining the number of categories and ensuring that there is equity across all categories.
  • We have undertaken a deep dive review of the Pro shop billing process.
  • The Finance Committee has a project list totalling 22 projects it is working on; 3 are now completed and 14 remain active. Active projects include:
    • Setting up separate Bank accounts for capital and irrigation money.
    • Re-establish Key performance indicators (KPI’s)
    • Review F&B minimums
    • Review all administration costs
    • Review banking services and fees
    • New formalized receivable process
    • Creating a winter plan for the facilities which recognizes member demand and promotes winter activities for curling and golf simulators.
    • Developing parameters for next year’s budget
Thanks to the Finance Committee and our Controller, our audit process is back on track and we are working toward October 4th for our AGM. I want to thank our committed Board of Directors who are working above and beyond to ensure that OCCC returns to a healthy financial footing. Our commitment to the membership is to uphold the private club experience and all that it entails.

As we head into the splendor of Autumn, let us look forward to continued days of great weather for golfing and social gatherings on our patio.
